How does it work. This is a system that is installed in phase 2 of the homologation process: this means that there are no indicators on the 10.25 digital display in the dashboard or on the large and easily readable monitor of the infotainment system. As you can see in the photo above, the button (compared to the younger sisters on the left of the steering wheel) adopts LEDs to indicate when the power is on. In practice, the car always starts on petrol and, in a very short time (based on the outside temperature), switches to LPG. If you decide to continue on petrol (the switch is imperceptible), just press the button: at that point the green LEDs (the ones at the bottom are four in all and indicate the amount of gas left in the tank) go out, while the one lights up. red on top.

How are you. We tried the Hyundai Bayon both in the LPG variant and in the one equipped with the 48V mild hybrid (here our road test), on a route of about thirty kilometers that alternates between city sections and extra-urban roads full of curves. The LPG wants to tickle those who love quiet driving, pay attention to the child carriers (the Korean manufacturer has estimated a saving of about 40% compared to the rest of the range) and need a considerable range (about 1,300 km with both tanks full); the second, on the other hand, is more lively and denotes a pinch of verve more when you put your foot on the gas. The difference between the load compartments is negligible, about twenty liters (the mild declares 411, the Gpl 393), as well as the main functions, even if an additional top-of-the-range set-up is available for the hybrid ( XClass). For the rest, the Bayon features a fairly ready steering, a manual gearbox with soft, precise engagement and a decidedly light clutch. The large 10.25 “display on the dashboard (just a little too vertical for the tallest ones) is appreciable, which shows all the information present on the infotanment system monitor (navigator maps included). Switching between the menus is easy. and intuitive, including the classic interface with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Overall comfort is good, with the suspension that absorbs potholes and imperfections in the road surface quite well: there is only some backlash at the rear on dry obstacles, especially on the mild of our test drive, which fitted 17-inch wheels.

Prices and fittings. The Bayon is on sale in three versions, XLine, XTech and XClass (the latter, as anticipated, is not available for the LPG variants), with prices starting from 19,850 euros. The standard equipment includes, among other things, the adjustable, heated and electrically foldable rear-view mirrors, the 16 ” alloy wheels, the multimedia system with 8 ” touchscreen, Bluetooth and connectivity with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto. , the 10.25 ” digital dashboard display, the wireless charger for the smartphone, the front and rear parking sensors and the speed limit recognition system. The XTech intermediate set-up (from 20,100 euros) adds LED daytime running lights, manual climate control, the active lane maintenance system, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition and the rear view camera with dynamic guides. The picture is completed by the top of the XClass range (from € 22,100), which integrates the previous equipment with the chrome belt line, the tinted rear windows, the LED headlights and rear lights, the 17 “alloy wheels, the armrest sliding front center and automatic climate control.
