Lightyear 0: al via la produzione dell’auto solare

DELIVERIES AT THE END OF 2022 – After six years of development finally the Lightyear 0 starts mass production, with the first deliveries expected within the month of November of the 2022. Presented in 2019 by a Dutch startup, the Lightyear 0 is an electric car that can be recharged (partially) even by drawing on solar energy since it is equipped with a total of 5 square meters of panels distributed throughout the body.

LIMITED PRODUCTION – The Lightyear 0 will be produced in a limited edition of only 946 copies, which will be sold at a unit price of 255,000 euros. The Dutch manufacturer said it has a plan to produce a “popular” solar car by 2025, at a price of around € 30,000.

EFFICIENCY FIRST OF ALL – The Lightyear 0in optimal conditions, using the sun’s energy captured by solar panels (up to 1.05 kW of constant charge) is capable of running 70 km per day more. There is a 60 kWh battery, rechargeable from the mains, which is able to guarantee a total autonomy of 625 km. This is a very respectable result, especially if you take into account the rather small battery size. Lightyear said it has developed a highly efficient electric transmission capable of delivering 10.5 kWh per 100km at a highway speed of 110km / h. The range is also helped by the aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.19, which makes it the more aerodynamic sedan. The Lightyear 0 is 5 meters long and has rather unusual proportions for a fastback five-door sedan, thanks to the very extended tail and partially covered rear wheels to aid aerodynamics.

CUSTOM-MADE TIRES – The tires also contribute to the great efficiency of the Lightyear 0: these are Bridgestone Turanza Eco, specially developed to reduce rolling resistance. However, such efficiency is at the expense of performance: the sprint from 0 to 100 is covered in 10 seconds and the maximum speed equal to 160 km / h.

VEGAN INTERIORS – Inside the Lightyear 0 there is room for five people; the interiors are vegan, made with vegetable-based leather, recycled PET bottles and rattan palm. A 10.1-inch touchscreen cannot be missing to manage navigation and infotainment.
