The desire of the General Motors to return to Europe has no longer been a mystery for several months. Several confirmations and CEO Mary Barra came from Detroit “I can not wait” to bring its group back to the European market. However, not many details of the manufacturer’s strategies are known and therefore we must rely more on the rumors of the American press. The latest were launched by the Bloomberg agency, according to which General Motors could start importing the crossover to the Old Continent in the second half of the year. Cadillac Lyriq, the first electric of the premium brand already on sale in the US. In the event of a positive market reception, GM could then expand its European offer with theHummerthe controversial military-derived vehicle recently re-launched in an electric version under the GMC brand.

The GMC HUMMER EV SUV completes the HUMMER EV family and features a 126.7-inch wheelbase for tight proportions and a maneuverable body, providing remarkable on- and off-road capability.

So many clues. A final decision has not yet been made, but in recent months, signs have emerged that suggest an imminent return at five years from the decision to sell most of the European activities, and specifically Opel, to the then PSA. First of all, GM, with the transformation of Cadillac into an electric-only brand, would no longer have to worry about one of the determining factors in the decision to get rid of the Rüsselsheim company, that is the European regulations on emissions. Secondly, the group has maintained representative offices in Zurich and a limited presence in Europe: the Swiss branch imports small quantities of the Corvette and, precisely, of Cadillac models. In addition, Mahmoud Samara, vice president of Cadillac North America, was entrusted with the project to restart European operations last November. At the time of the announcement, Samara himself was clear: “Europe is the second largest market in the world for electric vehicles and the fastest growing market and therefore offers significant opportunities.” Finally, GM is considering the establishment of a startup for the provision of mobility services in Europe.
